Interpreting Services & Support
For Healthcare Settings

Interpretek offers both in-person interpreting as well as VRI services for medical and mental health settings where appropriate. Whether it be the family doctor’s office, the emergency or operating room, or a rehab facility, Interpretek is there to facilitate communication between healthcare professionals and their Deaf patients and clients.

ASL Interpreter Services for Healthcare with Interpretek

Deaf and hard of hearing patients have historically had inconsistent patient experiences with healthcare providers due to communication barriers. Reading lips, writing notes, or having a family member interpret is not only ineffective for many Deaf individuals, but it also puts medical providers at risk due to potentially severe consequences as a result of miscommunication. By using a qualified Interpretek interpreter, you know you are working with a partner who meets and exceeds state and federal requirements and has the necessary signing skills and qualifications to provide effective communication as required by the ADA.

Educated in Compliance

Partnering with Interpretek ensures your compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). All Interpretek employees receive HIPAA training as part of their new-hire onboarding and renew their training annually to ensure compliance with today’s regulations. We’re there to facilitate a better patient experience, which can lead to less complaints when under review by the Joint Commission and offer greater efficiency for busy healthcare workers.

Well-Versed With Healthcare Policies

All of our interpreters are required to follow the Code of Professional Conduct (CPC) as mandated by the national Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID). The CPC outlines rules for confidentiality, professional conduct, ethical decision-making and business practices, and respect for all (whether colleague or client). Additionally, we require our interpreters to stay current in their understanding of HIPAA and its implications in the healthcare setting. Our systems are HIPAA compliant, so you can rest assured that your patient/client protected health information (PHI) will remain confidential.

Diverse, Medically Specialized Interpreters

Providing a qualified interpreter can open the doors to communication, which builds trust between the patient and provider. Our healthcare interpreters are well-versed in medical vocabulary and clinical environments, allowing us to offer specialized interpreters best suited to fulfill each specific request. If needed, our interpreters will ask for clarification and constantly work to ensure understanding on all sides.

What Is HIPAA Compliance and Why is it Important?

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is a legal requirement that encompasses patient data protection. Any business that handles protected health information must have measures in place to protect physical data storage, networks, and online processes; these measures must be implemented and followed in order to be HIPAA compliant. Anyone who provides payment, treatment, or operations in the healthcare space needs to abide by HIPAA, as well as any businesses or entities that have access to patient or client information.

HIPAA compliance is important because it covers any business handling protected health information from clients or customers. This can include health insurance companies, health care providers, and businesses that handle medical-based financial and administration transactions in any form; business associates that can access this information must also be HIPAA compliant. Rest assured, all of Interpretek’s interpreters and digital platforms are HIPAA compliant. From the moment we take your request, you can trust that your sensitive information is safe and following all HIPAA compliance guidelines.
