Basic Conversational ASL 101 Online Class

A great way to start your journey to learning ASL!

In this introductory course, students will learn the basics of American Sign Language, be exposed to Deaf Culture, and begin to learn about norms of the Deaf Community.

We offer six courses to help bridge the gap between the hearing and Deaf community. These courses start with learning the basics of ASL like the alphabet, fingerspelling and numbers all the way to narrating stories and discussing goals.

In this course, students will continue learning ASL strategies and implement them within narratives.

In the third course, students will discuss favorite activities and hobbies to learn about tenses, narratives, and facial cues.

  • Learn present, past and future tenses
  • Introduced to classifiers
  • Share short narratives about yourself and others
  • Understand the importance of facial cues
  • Fingerspelling practice
  • Deaf culture will be woven throughout the course

Advanced Conversational ASL 201

In this course, students will continue to learn about classifiers, how to describe people and conversational strategies.

  • Describe people, traits & personal items
  • Culturally appropriate greetings
  • Learn about leave-takings within the Deaf community
  • Conversational strategies like explaining, requesting, asking for advice & agreements

In the second advanced course, students will continue learning more vocabulary and new types of classifiers in ASL.

  • Describe places in their neighborhood
